Szijjarto: Rutte has effectively stabbed peace talks in the back
Budapest, 12 December (Hibya) – Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto made a statement regarding NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, saying that Rutte’s remarks have effectively stabbed peace negotiations in the back.
In a post on social media, Szijjarto said: “If there was any doubt as to whether common sense has completely disappeared in Brussels, Mark Rutte’s speech in Berlin yesterday should have dispelled those doubts.”
Saying that Mark Rutte made a number of irresponsible statements by claiming that ‘we’ are Russia’s next target, that Russia could be ready to attack NATO within five years, and that Ukraine’s security is our security, Szijjarto continued:
“The Secretary General had never made such claims before. This sharp turn clearly shows that in Brussels everyone has now lined up against Donald Trump’s peace efforts. With these statements, Mark Rutte has effectively stabbed peace negotiations in the back. As a NATO member, Hungary firmly rejects these claims. The security of European countries is ensured not by Ukraine, but by NATO itself. Ukraine is fighting not for our security, but for its own.”
Szijjarto described such provocative statements as irresponsible and dangerous, adding: “We call on Mark Rutte to immediately stop escalating the tensions of war.”
