Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated during his visit to Lebanon that Lebanon is a “brotherly country” and holds a special place in Italy’s heart.

Tajani said he met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut, noting that Italy conveyed a message of solidarity to the Lebanese people following recent developments.

In his statement, Tajani described Israeli attacks on civilian targets as “unacceptable” and noted that Italy would increase humanitarian aid and cooperation efforts.

Tajani also emphasized the need to keep dialogue channels open with Israel to reduce tensions in the region, calling for a “lasting and necessary ceasefire.”

Referring to Italy’s training and support programs for the Lebanese Armed Forces, Tajani stated that his country is ready to contribute to combating terrorism financing and preventing new attacks.

Tajani concluded by stressing the need to prevent an escalation similar to what is happening in Gaza and called on the international community to act jointly to avoid further deepening of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
