Miliband comments on the Falkland Islands
London, September 4 (Hibya) – British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said his country’s position on the status of the Falkland Islands had not changed, stating that the islands belong to the United Kingdom and will remain so.
Miliband said, “The United Kingdom’s position on the Falkland Islands does not change. The islands are British and will remain so, because that is the position of the overwhelming majority of the people who live there.”
Miliband said the islanders’ right to self-determination is paramount, stressing that this right is grounded in international law.
Miliband said, “We will resolutely defend that right.”
