Pavel said the teams that reached the region after the earthquake worked under difficult conditions, stating, “They worked in freezing cold, without heavy equipment and with the risk of further collapses.”

Pavel said aid was also delivered from the country to those affected by the earthquake, noting that a group of students quickly organized one of the first public aid campaigns of the time and that tens of tons of humanitarian aid were sent to Armenia.

Pavel said the story of that solidarity and courage continues to be part of relations between the two countries, adding, “I am pleased that the story of solidarity and courage from that period, nearly 40 years later, continues to be part of the relationship between our countries.”

Pavel also said that during his meeting yesterday with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, they thanked those who took part in relief efforts during the earthquake.
