Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the meeting in Evian addressed developments in the region as well as the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Iran and the United States.

She noted that the parties agreed on the need to support international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming Italy’s support for the security of the UAE and all Gulf countries.

The meeting also confirmed the intention to further strengthen the partnership in strategic areas, including bilateral relations, defence, investment, and cooperation under the Mattei Plan for Africa.
