Luxon warns the people of Thames-Coromandel
Wellington, January 23 (Hibya) – New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon warned residents of the Thames-Coromandel region following severe weather that hit the area.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said they are closely monitoring the situation after flooding and heavy rainfall in the Thames region, warning the public against potential dangers.
Emphasizing that the end of rainfall does not mean the risks are over, Luxon said: “Images from the situation in Thames after severe weather impacted the Thames-Coromandel region. While the heavy rain has passed, the sheer volume of rainfall has left many parts of the region particularly vulnerable to landslides and falling trees. These can be extremely dangerous.”
Speaking about warning signs the public should watch for, Luxon added: “Please be careful and look out for warning signs: small slips, rockfalls, ground subsidence, or unusual noises. If you notice any of these, act quickly, move away from the slope, and call 111.”
