World's first 16 MW floating platform connected to the power grid
According to the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Haiyou Anlan, the world's first 16-megawatt tension-leg floating wind platform, entered operation today after being connected to the power grid of the Lufeng oil field in the South China Sea.
The successful commissioning of the platform demonstrates that China's floating offshore wind technology has reached a world-leading level and provides a new technical solution for developing offshore wind resources in deeper waters.
The tension-leg floating wind platform, a large-scale offshore structure designed to harness wind energy in deep waters, consists of an upper floating structure, a seabed-anchored foundation, and a mooring system.
Installed 136 kilometers offshore in waters 136 meters deep, the platform reaches the height of an approximately 110-story building. It is equipped with a 16-megawatt wind turbine designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including Category 17 typhoons, and has an operational lifespan of 25 years.
The platform is expected to generate 54 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually for the oil field, helping save approximately 15,000 cubic meters of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 35,000 tons.
