Volker Türk: Deaths in ICE custody must be investigated immediately
New York, June 26 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a statement regarding deaths that occurred in the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that deaths occurring in ICE custody must be investigated immediately.
Türk stated, “I call for the immediate investigation of deaths that have occurred in the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and for those responsible to be held accountable.”
Pointing to the lack of transparency, Türk said, “The lack of transparency in these cases undermines accountability.”
