NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that defense investment will be one of the key priorities at the NATO Summit in Ankara, adding that Allies need to further increase their defense spending.

Referring to the summit's priorities and spending targets, Rutte said, "At the NATO Summit in Ankara, defense investment is one of our top priorities. To defend every inch of Allied territory today and in the future, we must spend more and spend better."

Sharing recent military spending figures from member countries, Rutte said, "Allies are truly making significant progress. Over the past decade, European Allies and Canada have spent an additional 1.2 trillion US dollars on defense. In 2025 alone, they increased defense investment by approximately 20 percent."
