UNRWA: Vital aid for Gaza has been blocked since March
New York, December 26 (Hibya) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated that humanitarian aid sufficient for hundreds of thousands of people is stored in warehouses outside Gaza, but that Israeli authorities have not allowed these supplies to enter the region.
In a statement, UNRWA said that large quantities of food, shelter, medical supplies and other basic necessities are stored outside Gaza and that this aid has the capacity to reach hundreds of thousands of people facing harsh winter conditions.
The Agency noted that the entry of this humanitarian aid into Gaza has been blocked by Israeli authorities since March, severely limiting civilians’ chances of survival and recovery in the region.
Pointing out that 12,000 UNRWA staff members continue to work tirelessly inside Gaza, the Agency said: “However, allowing the blocked aid to enter the region would enable these teams to significantly expand their operations.”
