Sybiha: Russia is also attacking religious freedoms
Kyiv, August 23 (Hibya) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv, joined by religious leaders of different faiths, Ukrainian defenders, clergy, families of those killed in the war, as well as Ukraine’s friends and partners.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said that the values Ukraine is defending are human dignity and freedom, adding, “Russia is attacking these freedoms just as deliberately as it attacks our cities.” Sybiha said that since the beginning of the war, Russia has destroyed or damaged 794 religious buildings belonging to different denominations, while pressure on religious communities and clergy continues in the occupied territories.
Sybiha said, “Ukraine knows the value of religious freedom. Thirty-five years ago, we freed ourselves from the Soviet system that suppressed faith.”
