Ukraine highlights Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
Kyiv, August 23 (Hibya) – Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Nazism and Stalinism that lasting peace cannot be achieved without confronting the crimes of totalitarian regimes.
In a statement marking the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Nazism and Stalinism, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Europe must confront the crimes of totalitarian regimes in order to build a just and lasting peace.
The statement said that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, signed between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union on August 23, 1939, divided spheres of influence in Europe through a secret protocol and paved the way both for the destruction of independent states and the outbreak of World War II.
