Sawe sets historic record: breaks the two-hour barrier
Kenyan athlete Sabastian Sawe became the first man to break the two-hour barrier, setting a world record at the London Marathon with a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds.
According to CCTV, the 31-year-old runner improved the previous record held by Kelvin Kiptum by more than one minute.
Following his historic achievement, Sawe was received by Kenyan President William Ruto at the Presidential Palace, where his success was met with applause during the ceremony.
The record-holding athlete said: “What I achieved in London, I did on behalf of all my fellow citizens. We will work to make our country’s name shine.”
