Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding Iran's targeting of two United Arab Emirates oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The ministry said the attack on the two ADNOC tankers constituted a violation of international law, freedom of maritime navigation and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

The statement expressed opposition to the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure and called for the strait to be reopened unconditionally.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said freedom of navigation through the strategically important waterway was a fundamental principle that was not open to debate, and that the continued closure of the strait adversely affected the interests of countries in the region and the global economy.

The ministry also called on Iran to stop its attacks on assets belonging to countries in the region, saying Qatar stood in solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and supported all measures the UAE would take to protect its assets.
