Prevot: Access to humanitarian aid is neither optional nor political
Brussels, December 31 (Hibya) – Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot called for unhindered access to humanitarian aid for Gaza and the lifting of restrictions.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot criticized the Israeli government’s new restrictive conditions targeting the activities of the United Nations and international NGOs.
Stressing that humanitarian aid cannot be politicized, Prevot said: “Access to humanitarian aid is neither optional, nor conditional, nor political. After obstructing the work of the United Nations, the Israeli government is now deregistering international NGOs through new restrictive conditions.”
Referring to rulings by the International Court of Justice, Prevot added: “The International Court of Justice has confirmed Israel’s unconditional obligation under international humanitarian law to ensure unimpeded humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.”
He called on all humanitarian organizations to cooperate in good faith, emphasizing their independence.
Prevot concluded: “I call on the Israeli government to lift all restrictions on access to humanitarian aid and to implement the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict.”
