Following the meeting, Sybiha said he had briefed his counterpart on the latest situation at the front and ongoing peace initiatives, stating, “Ukraine wants to end this war. South Africa’s voice and involvement in the process are important in supporting efforts toward a comprehensive and lasting peace.”

Sybiha said they also discussed the situation in the Black Sea and threats to freedom of navigation and global food security. He noted that safe and uninterrupted maritime transport is particularly important for food supplies to African countries.

Sybiha thanked Lamola for his interest in the return of Ukrainian children, saying, “Continued support from South Africa on this important humanitarian issue is of great importance.”

The meeting also addressed steps to develop relations and cooperation between the two countries, as well as bilateral contacts planned on the sidelines of international events. Sybiha reiterated his invitation to Lamola to visit Ukraine.
