Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, chaired an inter-ministerial meeting aimed at advancing the country’s trade and export promotion agenda.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting addressed trade facilitation, improving the quality and competitiveness of Pakistani products, expanding market access and diversifying exports.

Dar highlighted the importance of Pakistan making more effective use of opportunities under the European Union’s GSP+ scheme.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar stressed that the government would continue to pursue a coordinated and comprehensive approach to increase exports and strengthen economic ties.

The GSP+ mechanism is said to play an important role in Pakistan’s trade relations with the EU, with the country continuing efforts to maintain access to the European market under the scheme.

At the meeting, federal ministries and provincial administrations were asked to continue working on measures that would support exports and increase Pakistan’s trade potential.

Dar also pointed to the importance of maintaining continuous engagement with international partners.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the federal secretaries of the Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Human Rights and Law ministries, as well as senior officials from the federal and provincial governments.
