European Parliament President Roberta Metsola highlighted the courage shown by firefighters and emergency workers who served during natural disasters over the summer months.

Metsola said the sacrifices of firefighters and emergency workers who crossed borders, faced danger and risked their lives to help others serve as a reminder of the need to be better prepared for natural disasters that may occur in the future.

Metsola said an event at the European Parliament commemorated those who lost their lives in the recent record-breaking heatwaves and wildfires, stating, “Tonight at the European Parliament, we honor everyone who lost their lives in the recent record-breaking heatwaves and wildfires.”
