Merz met with NATO Secretary General Rutte
Berlin, December 11 (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a meeting in Berlin with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Chancellor Merz stated that NATO connects Europe and America in a way no other institution can.
He emphasized that they aim to ensure security, stability, peace, and freedom across the European continent and in Ukraine. Merz added: “Thank you for your work, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.”
Rutte expressed his satisfaction at being in Berlin and meeting Chancellor Merz.
He stated that Germany makes impressive contributions to its allies on land, at sea, and in the air. “And you continue to be the driving force behind the support given to Ukraine. We know we can rely on Germany, and Germany can rely on NATO,” Rutte said.
Merz stated that they want a lasting ceasefire that will end the war in Ukraine and added:
“This requires solid legal and material guarantees. And the solution must protect Europe’s security interests. There can be no peace at the expense of the EU or NATO, nor a peace imposed over our heads.”
