Leaders call for urgent diplomacy on the Strait of Hormuz
Ottawa, April 17 (Hibya) - The leaders of Canada, France, and the United Kingdom called for coordinated diplomacy in response to security risks in the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on energy flows and global supply chains.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed developments around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical maritime passages in the Middle East.
During the talks, attention was drawn to the pressure that security risks in the strait place on global energy markets, maritime transport, and supply chains. The leaders agreed that tensions should not reach a level that threatens international trade flows.
The statement also welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and took note of Iran’s announcement regarding the reopening of the strait.
Canada emphasized its full solidarity with Gulf countries in the face of recent attacks and economic pressures, while supporting diplomatic initiatives by France and the United Kingdom to ensure safe passage in the region.
The leaders underlined the need to enhance international coordination to maintain stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
