Peskov said, "Two camps have formed. Some increasingly say that, regardless of everything, we must start talking to the Russians, and that this is consistent with our approach."

"However, others remain attached to the old approach, which is entirely short-sighted, unreasonable, and irrational; they insist that all contacts must be severed and never resumed under any circumstances," he said.

Recently, many European leaders have discussed the need to resume engagement with Russia. This week, Emmanuel Macron announced that Moscow and Paris have restored technical communication channels. The Kremlin confirmed this information, but stated that it had yet to see any signs of high-level dialogue being established.

Earlier in February, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina and Estonian President Alar Karis supported the idea of appointing a special EU representative to participate in Ukraine negotiations.

On the other hand, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called for an end to "knocking on the Kremlin's door," claiming that it weakens Europe's position.
