Jetten: The humanitarian situation in Gaza must be improved
Amsterdam, April 1 (Hibya) – Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten announced that he held a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated that the bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Israel are based on many years and are maintained on the basis of open and honest dialogue, noting that in this context he held an introductory meeting with Herzog.
Jetten said that developments in Iran and Lebanon were discussed during the meeting, stating, “I expressed my condolences due to Iran’s attacks on innocent Israeli civilians and emphasized that there should be no further civilian casualties on either side of the conflict.”
Referring to Israel’s security concerns, Jetten said, “We recognize Israel’s legitimate security concerns. However, Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot be a matter of debate.”
Drawing attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Jetten stated, “All border crossings must be open so that the necessary humanitarian aid can reach the Palestinian people.”
Jetten also said, “Settler violence in the West Bank is unacceptable.”
Addressing the death penalty, Jetten said, “The reintroduction of the death penalty in Israel is unacceptable for the Netherlands and other European Union countries.”
Finally, Jetten referred to the fight against antisemitism in the Netherlands, stating, “Following the recent incidents in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, combating antisemitism is of great importance.”
