Hegseth: At the end of the day, Iran will never possess nuclear weapons
Washington, April 24 (Hibya) - Pete Hegseth made statements regarding tensions between the United States and Iran and developments in the Strait of Hormuz, saying: “At the end of the day, Iran will never possess nuclear weapons.”
Hegseth highlighted the US military presence in the region, stating: “The US Navy controls traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.” He emphasized that the US Navy is active in the region and claimed that Iran’s naval power has weakened.
Hegseth described Iran’s threats toward commercial vessels not as “control” but as “piracy.” Criticizing the actions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps at sea, he said such activities threaten international trade.
He also referred to the maritime and economic pressure imposed by the US on Iran, stating that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz “will continue indefinitely if necessary.” He noted that this blockade significantly restricts Iran’s energy exports.
Hegseth also argued that Iran has long pursued a hostile policy toward the US, saying: “The real endless war is the one Iran has been waging against us for 47 years.”
He added that they are in no rush to reach any agreement with Iran.
