United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said hate speech can trigger violence and conflict, calling for an end to cycles fueled by hate and violence.

Guterres said hate speech can fuel violence, trigger conflicts and create conditions for the commission of atrocity crimes.

Noting that such events have been witnessed before, Guterres said: “We are seeing it happen now as well. We cannot allow this to continue.”

Guterres said: “Let us all raise our voices together and put an end to those tragic cycles fueled by fear, hate and violence.”
