According to a statement by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said Bulgaria is at the center of political discussions on Europe's economic outlook and resilience, stating that the country is a nation that produces solutions of strategic value.

Referring to the Connectivity Summit announced yesterday by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and scheduled to be held in Bulgaria next year, Radev said: “Bulgaria is at the center of political discussions on Europe's economic outlook and resilience; not as an observer, but as a nation that produces solutions of strategic value for Europe's future.”

Addressing assessments that Bulgaria would be isolated in Europe without political weight or allies, Radev said the country is neither on the periphery of Europe nor isolated. Radev said it was no coincidence that Bulgaria was among the few countries highlighted by the President of the European Commission within the framework of the summit on connectivity between Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, which will provide a significant amount of funding.

Stating that this does not merely signify recognition of Bulgaria's geographical position, Radev said: “On the contrary, this is an expression of confidence in the political will of the Bulgarian government and its ability to take initiative; thanks to these qualities, we both contribute to making European policies more effective and strengthen Bulgaria's role as a key regional actor.”

Radev pointed out that Bulgaria has the opportunity to turn its geographical position into a strategic advantage through concrete infrastructure initiatives and active cooperation with European institutions.

Prime Minister Radev said that during a meeting with representatives of the construction sector on Tuesday, priorities concerning strategic national infrastructure were presented and it was emphasized that active work was underway with the European Commission to give these projects a new status.

Stating that thanks to these initiatives the projects are becoming an integral part of the European strategic connectivity map covering transport, energy and digital infrastructure, Radev said: “Thanks to our initiatives, these projects are becoming an integral part of the European strategic connectivity map covering transport, energy and digital infrastructure.”
