United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need for peace to resolve crises ranging from Gaza and the broader Middle East to Ukraine and Sudan.

Sharing his assessment of the global call for peace, Guterres said, “From Gaza and the broader crisis in the Middle East to Ukraine, Sudan and beyond, our world needs peace.”

Listing the fundamental principles that states must follow, Guterres said, “States must abide by their obligations under the UN Charter and international law, including the following:”

Drawing attention to international obligations, Guterres said, “The principles of sovereign equality. Respect for the territorial integrity and political independence of states. International rights and freedoms of navigation.”

Guterres concluded his statement by saying, “The peaceful settlement of disputes. International humanitarian law and international human rights law.”
