Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that during the three days he spent in Ukraine, he closely observed daily life unfolding amid air raid sirens.

Sharing his impressions from the visit, Tsahkna said, “Three days spent following news of Ukrainians who continue with their daily lives across the country, yet become targets of Russian attacks while shopping, stopping at a gas station, or sleeping in their own beds...”

Describing how he feels when crossing the border, Tsahkna said, “Every time I finish my visit to Ukraine and cross the border into Poland, my heart aches. There is something deeply unsettling and disturbing about that moment. On one side of the border, people live under the constant threat of Russian missiles and drones.”

Referring to responsibility for the war and its continuation, Tsahkna said, “But Ukraine cannot leave the war behind. Russia chose to start the war, and every day Russia chooses to continue it.”

Tsahkna concluded his statement by saying, “Moreover, crossing that border does not mean that Russia’s threat ends there. Today, Russia struck the Yahodyn area, right near that border, bringing terror to the very doorstep of the EU and NATO. Members of my own team had also crossed there only a short time ago.”
