Greek Foreign Minister Gerapetritis met with Taro Kono, Chair of the Japan-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, as part of Japan’s participation this year as the guest of honor country at the Thessaloniki International Fair.

In a statement, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the meeting focused on “further strengthening bilateral relations” and developing economic cooperation.

The meeting also covered regional developments in Europe, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific.

Gerapetritis drew attention to the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation, emphasizing in particular the importance of maritime security in the “Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea”.

The Greek foreign minister also highlighted the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the context of the initiatives his country will undertake during its upcoming presidency of the United Nations Security Council.
