Baqaei’s message on World Red Crescent and Red Cross Day
Tehran, May 8 (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated in a message issued on the occasion of World Red Crescent and Red Cross Day that Iranian Red Crescent workers and volunteers had shown great sacrifice under wartime conditions.
Baqaei, in his message issued for World Red Crescent and Red Cross Day on May 8, drew attention to the relief efforts carried out by Iranian Red Crescent personnel and volunteers in conflict zones.
Baqaei stated that medical and aid teams working under bombings and missile attacks to save lives had demonstrated great courage, adding that the Iranian Red Crescent is not only a humanitarian organization but also “a unique story of sacrifice and courage.”
The statement noted that during the wars carried out by the United States and Israel over the past year, 9 members of the Red Crescent community and an 8-member volunteer family lost their lives.
Baqaei also claimed that 350 healthcare centers, 993 schools and educational institutions, 56 Red Crescent centers, 49 ambulances and rescue vehicles, and 3 Red Crescent and emergency helicopters had been targeted in the attacks.
The Iranian official announced that more than 6,000 aid and rescue operations had been carried out during the recent US-Israeli attacks, during which 7,215 people were rescued alive from under the rubble and approximately 7,000 people were transferred to healthcare centers.
