Wang meets with Starmer’s National Security Adviser Powell
Beijing, March 24 (Hibya) - China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met in Beijing with UK Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell to discuss regional crises.
According to CCTV, the two sides exchanged views on global security issues, particularly the recent situation in Iran and the Ukraine crisis.
Wang emphasized that the spillover effects of the conflicts in Iran are expanding, warning that a prolonged war would lead to more serious consequences. He stated that the parties should focus on the root causes of the crisis and return to the negotiating table for a political solution instead of "adding fuel to the fire."
During the meeting, which highlighted the importance of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to China in January, it was noted that developing the strategic partnership between the two countries is in the interest of both peoples.
Wang also stated that as long as both sides move toward each other and maintain constructive communication, they can properly address challenges and issues and achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.
