Von der Leyen: We support humanitarian workers
Brussels, 19 August (Hibya)- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commemorated humanitarian workers who have dedicated their lives to helping others in a statement marking World Humanitarian Day.
Von der Leyen stated that millions of people need assistance due to conflicts and disasters, adding that the EU continues its support as the world's "largest and most reliable donor."
Von der Leyen also referred to the EU's efforts to protect humanitarian workers, saying, "We support those who risk their lives to save others."
Von der Leyen noted that, in this context, the EU provides support through its "Protect Aid Workers" programme to humanitarian workers who face risks while carrying out their duties.
