Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

The ministry said the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence was being celebrated and highlighted the country’s centuries-old history. The statement said that previous generations preserved and defended Ukraine’s language, culture and dignity, passing their aspiration for freedom on to future generations.

The statement noted that Ukraine’s unity is not based solely on a shared heritage, adding that millions of Ukrainians are contributing today and will continue to contribute in the years ahead to safeguarding independence.

The ministry commemorated those who lost their lives for Ukraine’s independence and those defending the country. It also thanked all partners who stand with Ukraine and work alongside the country for lasting peace.

The statement emphasized that Ukraine’s future should be built together as a free, secure, innovative and prosperous European country.
