Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha criticizes the Budapest Memorandum
Kyiv, 5 December (Hibya) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha criticized the Budapest Memorandum in a statement marking the 31st anniversary of its signing.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the Budapest Memorandum as “a piece of paper that has become synonymous with a failed security arrangement.”
Sybiha emphasized that, due to this painful experience of the past, Ukraine no longer relies on empty promises but instead trusts in the strength of its own army and weapons.
He stated that Ukraine needs strong security guarantees to achieve a real, just and lasting peace, adding that the bitter lessons of Budapest must not be forgotten during efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
