Türk: Democracy is rebuilt every day
Brussels, June 23 (Hibya) - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that human rights must remain at the center of efforts to protect and strengthen democracy.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized that human rights should be placed at the heart of policymaking.
Noting that democracy is not a structure that sustains itself automatically, Türk said: “Democracy is not something we inherit; it is a value that we rebuild every day.”
Türk stated that trust grows when leaders work to fulfill people's rights, adding: “When leaders work to uphold people's rights, trust increases and democracy can reach its true potential.”
