Qatari Foreign Minister Al-Thani discusses regional developments after the ceasefire with Portuguese counterpart Rangel
Doha, April 9 (Hibya) – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Al-Thani and Portuguese Foreign Minister Rangel discussed regional developments following the ceasefire.
According to statements issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel held a phone call.
The Qatari statement said that the latest developments in the region were discussed during the call within the framework of the ceasefire declared between the United States and Iran, and that issues of mutual interest were also reviewed.
The statement added that Al-Thani reiterated his welcome for the ceasefire decision and stressed that it should be built upon in order to prevent an escalation of tensions.
The statement by Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Rangel began the conversation by thanking Qatar for its support for the Portuguese community and conveyed a message of full solidarity in the face of attacks against Qatar.
The statement noted that both sides welcomed the ceasefire and called on all parties to fully implement the agreement.
It was also stated that the parties agreed on the importance of fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz in the short and medium term and preserving freedom of navigation at sea.
