Macron holds phone call with Iranian President Pezeshkian
Paris, April 11 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron, in his conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, highlighted the importance of diplomacy and security guarantees for ensuring regional stability and called for the restoration of navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
French President Emmanuel Macron shared details of his phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
Stating that the focus of the conversation was reducing regional tension, Macron said, “I called on him to seize the opportunity offered by the talks initiated in Islamabad to pave the way for a demanding agreement that would ensure lasting de-escalation and provide robust security guarantees for the region with the participation of all relevant countries.”
Expressing concern over maritime security and freedom of navigation, Macron said, “I stressed that Iran must restore freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, and I noted that France stands ready to contribute to this.”
Also referring to the situation in Lebanon and ceasefire processes, Macron concluded his statement with these words:
“I emphasized the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire, including in Lebanon. France fully supports the actions of the Lebanese authorities, the only legitimate body with the authority to exercise state sovereignty and decide Lebanon’s future.”
