Leyen: Russia has intensified its brutal attacks against Ukraine
Brussels, May 7 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) Commission President Ursula von der Leyen assessed Russia’s ceasefire proposals and its ongoing attacks against Ukraine.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen drew attention to the contradiction between Russia’s diplomatic rhetoric and its actions on the ground.
Referring to Russia’s previous stance, Leyen said, “For Orthodox Easter, Russia proposed a ceasefire. Yet it intensified its brutal attacks against Ukraine; there were almost 8,000 violations of the ceasefire they proposed.”
Continuing her criticism of the current situation, Leyen stated, “Now, they are proposing a ceasefire to secure a pause for the Red Square celebrations. Today’s air attacks on Ukraine once again show that Russia is not serious when it talks about ceasefire or peace.”
Emphasizing the necessary conditions for achieving peace, Leyen said, “The only way to stop human suffering and open space for meaningful peace talks is to immediately stop the killing and agree on a long-term ceasefire.”
