Jetten met with members of the Moluccan community
Amsterdam, June 1 (Hibya) - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten met with representatives of the Moluccan community as part of the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Moluccan soldiers of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) and their families in the Netherlands.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated that 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families in the Netherlands. He noted that for many Dutch citizens of Moluccan descent, this date remains “a source of pain, disappointment, and a feeling of insufficient recognition by the Dutch government.”
Jetten said that he met with community representatives at a gathering organized on the initiative of the National Foundation of Moluccan Elders, adding: “This evening, we spoke with different members of the Moluccan community about their personal memories, experiences, and what 75 years in the Netherlands have meant to them.”
