Herzog Meets Merz
Jerusalem, December 7 (Hibya) – Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his first official visit; the two leaders discussed Middle East issues and regional security.
President Herzog welcomed Chancellor Merz in Israel, expressing his satisfaction with Merz’s first visit as Chancellor, stating: “Israel and Germany are true friends. This important relationship continues to hold strategic value for both countries.”
During the meeting, the importance of implementing the plan approved by the United Nations Security Council and proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump was discussed. Herzog emphasized that Hamas must lay down its arms in Gaza and release the last Israeli hostage, Ran Guilli.
Chancellor Merz said: “I am here as a friend of Israel, and we will always stand by you. The fact that diplomatic relations were established so soon after the Holocaust, and that our friendship has deepened, is a miracle.” The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen their partnership and cooperation for a better future.
