Ghalibaf said, referring to the expulsion of the Portuguese from the region in 1622, that Gulf Day is a historical symbol of resistance and sovereignty.

He stated that the historical process in the Gulf was “shaped by the expulsion of foreign colonial powers” and that this legacy continues today.

Touching on the Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf emphasized Iran’s regional role and said his country has the capacity to protect its security and strategic interests.

In his message to the United States, he argued that the region “could have a more independent and stable future without American intervention,” adding that Iran seeks a regional order free from external interference for itself and its neighbors.

The statement was evaluated alongside other official messages issued in Iran for Gulf Day and brought regional naming disputes and geopolitical tensions back to the agenda.
