Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares discussed the latest developments in Ukraine during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha.

Albares expressed his hope that 2026 would be a year of peace for the Ukrainian people and condemned attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other cities.

Stressing that it is unacceptable for Ukrainian civilians to be forced to spend Christmas under bombardment, Albares said, “I conveyed our support for negotiations aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”

Albares emphasized that maintaining Europe’s unity and determination is vital, warning that the future of European security is at stake.
