EU Commissioner Lahbib launches economic investment initiative for crisis-affected regions
Brussels, November 6 (Hibya) – European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib announced the launch of the InvestFrontier initiative in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), aimed at expanding economic opportunities in regions affected by conflict and crises.
Announcing the initiative, Lahbib noted that 2 billion people worldwide live in regions affected by conflict and crises. "One in four people lives under these conditions. This is a major humanitarian challenge and, at the same time, a vast area of economic opportunity that has yet to be fully explored," she said.
Highlighting the role of local businesses in creating jobs, Lahbib stated, "A regular income reduces people's dependence on aid." She explained that this was why they had launched the InvestFrontier initiative together with the World Economic Forum.
