Canadian Prime Minister Carney reacts to attempted arson attack on synagogue
Ottawa, June 6 (Hibya) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the attempted arson attack on the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom synagogue in Montreal, drawing attention to rising antisemitism in the country and reaffirming his government's determination to combat hate crimes.
Carney issued a statement regarding the attempted arson attack carried out overnight against the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom synagogue in Montreal.
Carney said he was deeply concerned by the incident, adding that it was reassuring that no one was injured during the attack and that he was pleased a suspect had been apprehended. He emphasized the government's full support for law enforcement authorities in their efforts to clarify the circumstances of the incident and ensure justice is served.
Pointing to the rise of antisemitism across Canada, Carney stated that hatred, discrimination, and violence directed at Jewish communities are completely unacceptable. He stressed that such attacks have no place in society and that everyone has a responsibility to confront hatred.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government will continue taking concrete measures to combat antisemitism and will use all available tools to do so. He reaffirmed his commitment to building a fairer society in which Jewish Canadians can live safely, freely, and openly.
