Byron Storm causes the deaths of ten people in Gaza
Stockholm, 12 December (Hibya) - According to the Wafa news agency, the Byron Storm currently hitting Gaza has so far caused at least ten deaths and many injuries due to flooding and building collapses.
Local sources reported that five Palestinians were killed overnight after a house sheltering displaced people collapsed in the Bir an-Naaja area of North Gaza governorate.
At dawn, two people died when a large wall collapsed onto the tents of displaced people in the Remal neighborhood west of Gaza City.
Yesterday, one person died after a wall collapsed in the Shati camp, and a newborn baby died from the cold in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis.
Gaza civil defense said its teams recovered a body and pulled two injured children from the rubble of a collapsed house in the Bir an-Naaja area in northern Gaza, adding that efforts to rescue others are ongoing.
Rescue teams also evacuated residents of the Darby family home after the entrance to the building collapsed in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.
In addition, a rescue team from Deir al-Balah governorate freed a Red Crescent vehicle that got stuck in a pool of water near the al-Suwarah cemetery in the Nuseirat camp.
As heavy rain continues to fall on Gaza, Gaza civil defense warned yesterday that it is not safe for residents living in homes damaged by Israeli attacks to remain in their houses during the storm.
