Baqaei: The EU risks standing on the wrong side of history
Tehran, March 4 (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that the European Union (EU) must take a clear stance against the actions of the United States (US) and Israel toward Iran and called on the EU to adhere to international law.
Baqaei noted that the EU had played a key role in international diplomacy in the past and described the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as “a landmark achievement of European foreign policy.”
Baqaei said: “The EU/E3 once played a decisive role in international diplomacy and helped implement the 2015 JCPOA. This was a significant achievement of European foreign policy, but it was sabotaged by the current US administration.”
Claiming that some EU members act under pressure from the German Chancellor, Baqaei said: “Today some EU members face the risk of standing on the wrong side of history by appearing complicit in acts of aggression and war crimes by the United States and Israel against the Iranian people.”
Describing Iran as “one of the world’s oldest and most enduring civilization-states,” Baqaei called on the European Union to “oppose any step reminiscent of Nazi mentality in history and maintain its commitment to international law and justice.”
