Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized in a social media statement that football should be a sport that unites nations.

Baqaei stated that the World Cup was designed as a celebration and a unifying event, stressing that sport should not be used to create discrimination or tension between countries.

The statement highlighted the importance of the attitude of host countries toward athletes, referees and visitors, emphasizing that hospitality is one of the fundamental elements of international sporting events.

Baqaei also said: "As troubling reports emerge regarding inappropriate and disrespectful treatment of football players, referees and guests at entry points into the United States, the warm and courteous welcome extended by the people of Mexico to football teams serves as a powerful reminder of a simple truth: outstanding hospitality is defined by human conduct and the ability to make guests genuinely feel welcomed and valued. The true credibility of a host country is not measured solely by sports facilities or political display, but by the quality of treatment offered to those who come to the country out of a love for football."
