Asia-Pacific stock markets face selling pressure in the new trading session
Istanbul, October 22 (Hibya) - Asia-Pacific equity markets began the day with a widespread wave of selling, making it a challenging session for investors. The declines observed on the stock exchanges of the region's leading economies clearly highlighted a strengthening trend of moving away from risky assets.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 2.09 percent by the end of the day, falling to 63,273.00 points. Losses were even deeper in Chinese and related markets, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng index declining 3.00 percent and the FTSE China 50 index dropping 3.06 percent. Similarly, South Korea's KOSPI index ended the day at 5,545.84 points, recording a sharp loss of 3.31 percent.
Despite the generally negative sentiment across the region, a small number of stock markets managed to remain in positive territory. Indonesia's IDX Composite index rose 1.36 percent to 5,400.98 points, posting the strongest positive performance among regional markets.
