Anand issues condolence message for Otto Jelinek
Ottawa, September 8 (Hibya) - Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand issued a message of condolence following the death of former member of parliament and ambassador Otto Jelinek, who served Canada in public service for many years.
Anand said Jelinek served for 20 years as the member of parliament for Oakville and held various cabinet positions at different times. She added that Jelinek later served as Canada's ambassador to the Czech Republic and also highlighted his achievements in sports.
Anand noted that Jelinek represented Canada in pairs figure skating at the 1960 Olympics and won the world pairs championship in 1962. She said, “Last year, it was a sincere privilege for me to present Otto with the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his extraordinary service and dedication to our country.”
Thanking Jelinek, Anand said, “Thank you, Otto Jelinek, for representing Canada so exceptionally in sport, diplomacy and government. Very few people have served Canada in such a comprehensive way. You will be missed.”
