Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand issued a statement regarding the Houthi attack on a commercial Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea.

Anand said the attacks and the threat of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia are unacceptable, stressing that such actions endanger maritime security and increase the risk of further regional escalation.

Reaffirming Canada's support for freedom of navigation and the obligations established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Anand called on the Houthis to immediately cease attacks on commercial vessels and comply with international law.
