Zelensky warns of grain crisis as Russia blocks maritime grain exports
Kyiv, October 12 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia was taking no steps to end the war or reduce tensions, warning that the obstruction of maritime grain exports could trigger a food crisis in countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war and the potential food crisis that could arise from restrictions on grain exports.
Zelensky said there were no signs that Russia wanted to end the war and that even basic steps toward de-escalation had not been taken. Noting that energy issues had taken center stage while grain exports had been pushed into the background, Zelensky said, "Everyone is talking about diesel fuel and forgetting about grain. In one or two months, everyone will start talking about an agricultural crisis."
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine exports millions of tons of grain to African countries, some Asian countries and markets in the Middle East. Stating that Russia was blocking exports by sea, he said, "These countries will not receive enough food."
Zelensky argued that attention was focused solely on energy because the United States was not feeling the effects of the situation. He warned that problems with grain supplies could turn into a hunger crisis affecting numerous countries.
Emphasizing the need to prevent potential crises before they emerge, Zelensky said, "We need to think about everything and everyone because we all live on this planet. We can prevent different crises before they even begin and avoid the difficulties they may bring."
